- Moderate to heavy rain tonight through early tomorrow
- Rain, snow and winds on Wednesday
- A sunny and warmer trend ahead
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – With our next storm system steady, soaking rain is pushing into the area this afternoon and will stick around well into the night. Rain could fall heavily at times, especially after dark, and many spots will pick up at least an inch of rainfall before this system is done. With the ground still frozen, water won’t be able to soak in easily, leading to some standing water on roads and potential runoff into the area rivers and streams. A few rumbles of thunder may mix in, but nothing severe is expected.
Wednesday is a FIRST ALERT DAY. This storm system will bring us both spring and winter weather conditions. We start the day with lingering rain, but as colder air rushes in behind the system, rain will gradually change to snow from west to east. Accumulations of 1-2″ in Dane county and less to the south. But communities northwest of the city, closer to Baraboo and the Dells, could see 2-4″ inches. The bigger story on Wednesday might be the wind. Northwesterly gusts will crank up to 40-50 mph, which, combined with falling snow, could create reduced visibility in rural areas. Even if you don’t get much snow, the wind alone will make it feel raw and wintry once again…
