Dear Editor: This note is a reaction to the article appearing in the Cap Times on renovating the coliseum at the Alliant Energy Center.
It always amuses me to read statements such as “improved accessibility is crucial,” noting “shortcomings with … current restrooms and staircases,” “reduced wait times for bathrooms and concessions are needed.”
The reason is that concern over things such as wait times for concessions cannot be compared to the much more important concern of getting there in the first place. Unless you drive or bike of course. I am one of 30% to 40% of the residents of Dane County who do not drive. But I do live in a city with a supposedly fantastic transit system. The reader might thus be surprised to hear that after taking both A and B buses, I am expected to walk (or “wheel” in my case) for 23 minutes one way from the nearest bus stop on Park Street to or from the coliseum — in the dark, rain, heat or snow no less…
