Baja-inspired HWY 1 replacing Miko Poke on Monroe Street

On June 16, Monroe Street will gain a new culinary concept. Food Fight Restaurant Group is replacing Miko Poke, which served seafood and rice bowls, with HWY 1 at 2701 Monroe St. in Knickerbocker Plaza. HWY 1, like its predecessor, plans to offer takeout and dine-in options, but diverges from Miko Poke with a Baja-inspired menu.

Apart from build-your-own burritos, bowls and salads, there will be Baja-inspired “house favorites,” says Melanie Gautreau, managing partner at Food Fight Restaurant Group. Among these house favorites are a Tijuana chicken Caesar salad and loaded nachos, which come piled with queso, black beans, pico de gallo, guacamole and Monterey Jack cheese. Customers can add slow-braised carnitas, pollo asada or marinated steak to these dishes for a little extra protein, too

HWY 1 also has a fair share of seafood options, like its Baja fish taco bowl and seared ahi tuna bowl. Customers with dietary restrictions will find a number of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan dishes. In addition to standard proteins for burritos and bowls like steak, chicken and carnitas, HWY 1’s menu features chili-roasted cauliflower and sofrito lentils. There’s even vegan queso available. While the tortillas used for burritos contain gluten, everything else on the menu is gluten-free, Gautreau says. A dairy-free Pineapple Whip will carry over from Miko Poke’s menu — by popular demand says Gautreau — along with a rotating seasonal flavor (also dairy-free)…
