Shaped by tragedy and a desire to succeed, Tisha Mann becomes a Shieh finalist

Editor’s note: In this article of a multipart series, the Post shares the story of Shieh Su Ying Scholar Athlete Award finalist Tisha Mann – a student at the Academy of Our Lady of Guam and member of the National Honor Society. Mann won back-to-back softball championships with the Cougars and will be attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she received a full academic scholarship. Tisha’s sister, Tera, is also a Shieh finalist.

When Tisha Mann’s father, Barry, passed away when she was eight, life changed for she and her family unfathomably. It was at that young age when she noticed how her mother’s love guided and nurtured she and her family through life’s complexities – something she cherishes everyday.

Maybe more than anything, her father’s passing instilled a desire within her to do more, try harder, care more and never let her mother down…
