Dear Editor: As a parent of a child with a serious medical condition, I’m deeply concerned about cuts to Medicaid in the proposed congressional budget. For families like mine, Medicaid isn’t optional — it’s essential.
Medicaid allows children with complex needs to receive necessary care, avoid hospitalizations and stay healthy. Private insurance often doesn’t cover the therapies, equipment and specialized care our kids rely on. Without Medicaid, families like mine are forced into crisis.
Sen. Ron Johnson has stated that the Republican budget doesn’t cut enough spending and wants Medicaid cuts on the table. However, cutting Medicaid won’t save money; it will shift costs to emergency rooms and hospitals and, most importantly, jeopardize children’s health. We all desire responsible budgeting, but not at the expense of our most vulnerable children. Additionally, we shouldn’t risk health care coverage for millions to finance tax cuts that disproportionately benefit the wealthiest Americans…
