Prosecutors allege couple tied to hazmat investigation tried to poison man’s ex-girlfriends

MADISON, Wis. — Prosecutors alleged the man and woman charged from the recent hazmat searches around town were trying to kill off the man’s ex-girlfriends.

Paul Van Duyne, 43, is charged with attempted homicide. His alleged girlfriend, Andrea Whitaker, is charged with harboring and aiding a felon. During Whitaker’s initial appearance June 18, prosecutors said police had been investigating Van Duyne for poisoning over the last two months.

The investigation started after a woman left Costco and found people around her car saying it had been disturbed. While she didn’t notice anything wrong, the water she left in her car tasted funny. Two weeks later, the woman had the exact same thing happen with her water after leaving Costco. She took the water to police where it tested positive for cyanide…
