MADISON, Wis. — The Madison Metropolitan School District kicked off its inaugural 2025 Freedom Schools summer program at Mendota Elementary.
The six-week program is rooted in the legacy of the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools which began as part of the 1964 Mississippi Freedom Summer and continues today as a national model of summer learning, literacy development, and youth empowerment.
