Three horses euthanized, dozens rescued in Wisconsin animal neglect case

LEWISTON, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities say three horses were euthanized and more than a dozen others were rescued after investigators found signs of severe animal neglect at a property in Columbia County.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began on June 27 when deputies responded to a report of animal abuse and neglect at a residence in the Town of Lewiston.

A deputy trained in animal welfare accompanied detectives to the property. While walking the grounds with the homeowner, the deputy reportedly saw multiple horses in need of immediate veterinary attention.

A search warrant was obtained, and with assistance from a team of veterinarians, 21 horses were examined. Several were found to have severe medical issues, and three were determined to be suffering so significantly that they were humanely euthanized…
