On Tuesday, July 8, Olbrich Botanical Gardens brought together some 1,000 community members for the city’s first Collard Fest.
This event was a part of the Olbrich After Hours series, and a continuation of Olbrich’s collaboration with chef and farmer Yusuf Bin-Rella and Phil Kauth, executive director of REAP Food Group, a Madison-based nonprofit.
Oblrich introduced this partnership to the public earlier this year with the Collards Collaboration Kickoff. Erin Presley, horticulturalist for Olbrich’s herb garden where the collard greens and other companion plants were sown, compared the event to the “potlikker” created when cooking collard greens, as people from different backgrounds came together…
