Letter | Build climate measures into zoning changes

Dear Editor: Our warming climate is a threat to the well-being of all of us regardless of age, demographics and ethnicity.

A healthy urban landscape that includes, among other things, a mature tree canopy and green space is vital to the citizens of Madison. The zoning changes coming before city council on July 15 may help meet the demands of a growing urban population, but at the expense of a healthy ecosystem and an attractive, vibrant center city.

I urge the City Council to consider including incentives for saving trees on private property, reducing the amount of impermeable surface and pay attention to the consequences of the Housing Forward proposals being recommended…
