Dane County recently experienced a spike in drug overdoses. From July 13 to 14, in the span of 24 hours, there were 5 confirmed overdose response calls. Public Health Madison and Dane County, or PHMDC, issued a public health alert regarding the spike.
At the moment, the cause of the spike is not known. In a press release, PHMDC speculated that “the make-up of street drugs in our community changed and could [now] include a different mixture of opiates, fentanyl, or other synthetic drugs.”
