New basement bookstore writes new chapter for Paul’s Book Store

MADISON, Wis.- Just like it’s hard for some to put a good book down, one Madison resident couldn’t let Paul’s Bookstore on State Street go from the city it called home for over 70 years.

“I was absolutely devastated that they closed, irreplaceable. Nothing will ever be like Paul’s in Madison,” August McGinnity-Wake said, after the bookstore closed in Feburary.

Paul’s had been a haven for him since his time as a University of Wisconsin-Madison student. “I would go there between classes, peruse those tiny little aisles, stuffed full of books from floor to ceiling.”…
