Dane County sheriff: Woman accused of killing 2 in wrong-way crash should face trial, not deportation

An undocumented immigrant accused of causing the death of two teens in a drunk driving incident is now at the center of a dispute between federal immigration authorities and Dane County officials over the county’s “sanctuary” policies.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is accusing Dane County of undermining public safety by declining to transfer the defendant, 30-year-old Noelia Saray Martinez-Avila, into its custody if she were to post bond.
