Large, mature trees make up just ten percent of the city of Madison’s entire tree population. But that small fraction provides more than half of the city’s total leaf canopy, according to a recent analysis from the state’s Department of Natural Resources.
Protecting those old-growth trees is one of the top priorities in a proposed ordinance that’s slated to be introduced at tomorrow’s Common Council meeting.
