Madison marks Hiroshima anniversary with lanterns and call for peace

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Dozens gathered Wednesday evening at Tenney Park in Madison to mark the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.

The annual Lanterns for Peace event, organized by Physicians for Social Responsibility Wisconsin, blends personal remembrance with a broader call for nuclear disarmament.

“We’ve been doing this event for probably 25‑30 years, maybe longer,“ Amy Schulz, president of PSR Wisconsin and registered nurse said. ”And we usually begin with everyone designing their own lantern… it gives people a chance to kind of express their desires for peace.”…
