Madison Fire: Hot water heater activates apartment complex’s carbon monoxide alarm

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A hot water heater in an apartment complex on Madison’s south side caused a carbon monoxide alarm to go off, forcing residents to evacuate on Wednesday, the city’s fire department reported on Friday.

According to the Madison Fire Department, firefighters responded around 11:30 p.m. to the 2800 block of Ashford Lane for a report of a carbon monoxide alarm going off in the basement.

When firefighters arrived, they went into the basement with an air monitor and detected carbon monoxide readings of 40-50 parts per million (ppm)…
