MADISON, Wis. — UW-Madison responded Wednesday after being revealed as a client of a beagle breeder in the town of Blue Mounds that is accused of abusing animals.
Findings published by animal rights advocates Rise for Animals and the Marty Project show the university purchased 19 dogs from Ridglan Farms between January 2022 and July 2023.
In a statement Wednesday, UW-Madison confirmed that Ridglan supplied the school with animals in the past. According to the school, dogs are used in research studies of cancer prevention, organ transplants, vaccines and other medical breakthroughs.
