Madison’s new police chief talks about his goals and priorities

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – For 27 years, John Patterson has gone to work for the Madison Police Department. But now, he runs the department.

When WMTV had a chance to talk one-on-one with the new Police Chief, we asked him how it felt to be the city’s top cop. “It feels surreal,” said Chief Patterson.

He comes into the position with almost three decades of experience in the department, and he hopes that gives him a leg up in his new job. “I’m hoping I’m able to leverage all of these experiences and relationships that I’ve been able to build over three decades to the benefit of the community and department,” said Chief Patterson…
