Woman, 68, arrested after 7 Great Danes left in van; 2 die, 3 euthanized, 1 in critical condition

MADISON, Wis. — A 68-year-old woman was arrested after officers found seven Great Danes confined in a van in what police described as deplorable conditions, leading to multiple canine deaths, according to the Madison Police Department’s city-wide notable calls list.

Officers responded to a welfare check for dogs in distress on the 400 block of Science Drive shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday and found the woman with seven Great Danes in her van with no access to air, food or water, police said. The dogs were allegedly left in the vehicle since about 10:30 a.m..

Two of the dogs were dead at the scene, while four others were taken to an emergency veterinary clinic…
