The Great Dane Pub & Brewing Co. announced today it will close its Hilldale location (357 Price Place) — one of four Madison-area locations — citing the changing restaurant and retail landscapes along with falling revenues. Its last day will be Nov. 8.
“Ultimately, the financial challenges were too much for us to continue operating at Hilldale,” says Eliot Butler, Great Dane’s co-founder and president. “While difficult, we’ll focus our energy on two things: Helping our Hilldale staff move forward and strengthening our three other Madison-area pubs.”
Great Dane operates a flagship restaurant downtown (123 E. Doty St.), on the east side (876 Jupiter Drive) and in Fitchburg (2980 Cahill Main, Fitchburg). The business closed its Wausau location (2305 Sherman St., Wausau) in April 2025 after operating there for 15 years, citing similar challenges that led to the Hilldale closure.
