Burned beans set off alarms at south side Madison apartment

MADISON, Wis. — The Madison Fire Department responded Sunday afternoon to an apartment on the city’s south side after alarms sounded and smoke was seen coming from beneath a door in the 600 block of W. Badger Road.

Firefighters arrived shortly after noon and entered the unit, where they found smoke banked from ceiling to floor and a pot of burned baked beans on the stove.

Crews removed the pot, searched the apartment for occupants and found no one home. Firefighters then opened windows and used a fan to push smoke out of the residence…
