When Percy Brown Jr. started this summer as the new principal of Lori Mann Carey Elementary School, he knew he would have to address its past few troubled years head on.
The last principal and assistant principal of Lori Mann Carey, then known as Southside Elementary, were removed from their positions following a flood of complaints saying the leaders had created an untenable working and learning environment.
As the Cap Times first reported, a dozen current and former employees said the leaders had disciplined students by removing them from classes without instruction, for up to months at a time. Staff members who spoke out said they were also disciplined, leading some to have nightmares, seek therapy or quit their jobs…
