No one saw the upset win of the UCLA Bruins over the Penn State Nittany Lions. UCLA was sitting at 0-4 without a head coach (following the firing of DeShaun Foster earlier this season), and Penn State was ranked in the top ten. Yet, they pulled it off. As stunning as that is, it says a lot about the current state of Wisconsin football. They may actually be the worst team in the conference.
There are really two angles to UCLA’s shocking win, the first is above. Who’s worse than Wisconsin right now in the Big Ten? It was UCLA, but they now have one Big Ten win, one ranked win, and one top-ten win all in one fell swoop. Luke Fickell can’t claim any of that this season, and has never done either of the latter two since becoming the head coach for the Badgers.
Maybe you could argue it’s the Northwestern Wildcats or the Purdue Boilermakers. Yet, Purdue hung tough with Illinois all day, and Northwestern already has three wins. Sure, you could argue those things, but there’s a legitimate case that the worst team in the Big Ten is Wisconsin. And let’s be real, those fan bases are nowhere near as proud as Badger Nation; those teams are used to losing.
Wisconsin should learn from UCLA and fire the head coach
