Madison mayor’s budget would grow spending by $20M, avoid major cuts

Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway is proposing a $452 million operating budget for next year, about $20 million more than this year’s adopted budget.

The 5% increase would equal about $30 annually for the average property taxpayer in Madison and avoid residents being charged extra for some municipal services through user fees, Rhodes-Conway said.

No major cuts to city services are being proposed, according to the mayor’s budget plan. The $20 million increase would help pay for higher personnel costs for city employees, including health insurance and wage raises, and $3.3 million in debt repayment for public works projects…
