Last night, the Madison Board of Education was presented with an update on the first phase of the district’s facilities referendum projects. Passed by voters in 2024, the facilities referendum approved $507 million in funding to renovate or replace 10 schools across seven sites in Madison. It was one of two property tax referenda passed at the time.
Phase 1 of the project includes two new buildings: the first will be shared by Shabazz High School and Sherman Middle School, and the second will be shared by Gompers Elementary and Black Hawk Middle School.
