Three new art installations hope to drive creative energy in historic downtown corridor

The city of Madison is utilizing SafeGrowth, a theory of neighborhood planning, to improve West Gilman Street. Recently, three public art projects were installed to help the historic corridor become safer, more vibrant, busier with pedestrians and drive economic success.

“As a downtown Madison business owner, I’m truly excited for the impact the new public art project will have on downtown Madison,” Peggy Gunderson, Madison’s central business improvement district member, said in a statement. “The new dragonflies will light up the Gilman Street area, transforming the space and providing a unique cultural experience for everyone that passes by them.”

The “Dragons Fly” is but one of three art pieces installed. The light art is an example of increasing pedestrian lighting at night.
