Fire located, put out on roof of UnityPoint Health-Meriter Hospital

MADISON, Wis. — Madison firefighters were able to locate and quickly put out a fire on the roof of UnityPoint Health-Meriter Hospital Friday night.

Firefighters were called to the hospital just after 8 p.m. Smoke was found in a fifth-floor mechanical room and fire was found on a roof. Firefighters believe the hospital’s air-handling systems near the fire had brought the smoke into the building. There was no actual fire inside the hospital.

The fire was out as of 9:15 p.m. and nobody was hurt. The Emergency Department and 6th floor of the hospital were briefly evacuated, but patients have since begun to return…
