Goodman Center Thanksgiving Basket Drive reaches capacity within 5 hours

MADISON, Wis. — Registration for the Goodman Community Center’s annual Thanksgiving Basket Drive closed almost as soon as it opened Tuesday, highlighting what organizers said is a worsening trend of food insecurity in the Madison area.

The drive reached its maximum capacity of 4,000 households at 11 a.m. Tuesday, a speed record that the center was not looking to break. Last year, it took over a day to reach the drive’s max capacity, and in 2023 registration was open for more than a week.

” This lightning-fast registration process only underlines the reality we’ve been seeing in our food pantry year-round: food insecurity in our community is worse than ever,” Goodman Director of Community Food Resources Francesca Frisque said. ” With inflation still pushing up food prices and cuts to government food aid, it is even more critical this year to energize the whole community and support this important program.”…
