Madison Police Department reports decline in crime compared to last 3 years

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – On Monday, Madison officials gathered to provide an update on city crime data that has been collected so far in 2025.

The department has seen a major drop in all major tracked crime so far this year.

Madison Police Chief John Patterson released data from this year and compared it to an average of a three-year period of data between 2022-2024.

  • Burglaries: 3-year-average: 583, this year: 335
  • Stolen autos: 3-year-average: 477, this year: 203
  • Theft from autos: 3-year-average: 581, this year: 472
  • Homicide: 3-year average:7, this year: 3
  • Shots fired: 3-year average 117, this year:78
  • Aggravated Assaults: 3-year average 473, this year: 457
