MMSD highlights student housing insecurity with ribbon display

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – More than 5% of students in the Madison Metropolitan School District are experiencing housing insecurity, an issue the district said often goes unseen.

November is homelessness awareness month, and MMSD is displaying ribbons to represent all students who are lacking stable housing. Each ribbon color represents a different age group, from younger than school age through high school.

Jani Koester with the Transition Education Program expects this year, close to 1,400 students do not have stable housing. This is an increase from last year’s 1,300.
