Dear Editor: If this candidate (“Tom Tiffany: Schools need to do better for our kids,” Nov. 5) can guarantee real transparency from the Madison Metropolitan School Board and Superintendent Joe Gothard, then he has my vote.
Parents in Madison have lived through their own alleged coverups. At West High School, a student with an IEP was brutally assaulted and had his skull fractured. Families were told little. The district downplayed the incident, prioritized optics and failed to warn parents about what really happened. That is not transparency. That is moral failure.
We do not need more statements about “values” or “equity.” We need honesty and speedy action. We need immediate public reporting of safety incidents, misconduct investigations and disciplinary outcomes. Until parents can trust that the district tells the truth, no promise of reform means anything…
