Bus rapid transit plans for north-south line urge more street parking

Design for Madison’s north-south bus rapid transit line has reached another milestone, with planners presenting a revised route in response to public concerns, largely over parking.

The proposed Rapid Route B would include 9 miles of new BRT lanes and 23 new stations. It would share 3.5 miles of the east-west BRT route that runs through the isthmus and provide transit access to an estimated 53,000 people and 40,000 jobs, 43 schools and child care centers, 10 grocery stores, and four hospitals, according to design plans discussed at the city’s Transportation Commission Nov. 5.
