Madison Police Oversight Board Appoints Interim Independent Monitor to Guide Community Engagement and Accountability

The Police Civilian Oversight Board (PCOB) of Madison has appointed Aeiramique “Meeka” Glass as the Interim Independent Monitor. Glass will oversee the PCOB’s public engagement process to select a permanent Independent Monitor. She will also supervise the Office of the Independent Monitor (OIM).

The OIM monitors the Madison Police Department (MPD), reviews its policies and investigations, and makes recommendations to improve accountability and community relations. Glass has more than 15 years of experience in criminal justice and public safety reform. She most recently worked as the Chief of Police Accountability for the City of Baltimore. In that role, she managed oversight of the Civilian Review Board, Police Accountability Board, and Administrative Charging Committee. She handled a large number of civilian oversight cases and worked to ensure compliance with a federal consent decree.

In Madison, Glass will spend time learning about the OIM’s operations before starting a community engagement process to recruit a permanent monitor. Her interim term is expected to last about six to nine months.
