Questions raised after Payton Leutner’s family wasn’t notified of Geyser escape

MADISON – Officials are calling into question the process of notifying victims of individuals overseen by the Department of Health Services after the family of Payton Leutner was not notified of Morgan Geyser’s escape on Nov. 22.

In a Nov. 24 news conference, the Waukesha County District Attorney’s office said the Leutner family was not notified until the morning of Nov. 23, nearly 12 hours after Geyser escaped the Madison area group home she was living in.

Leutner was the victim in the infamous “Slender Man” stabbing case. She was 12 in 2014 when Geyser and Anissa Weier lured her from a sleepover to a nearby wooded park in Waukesha. Leutner was stabbed 19 times…
