After a shooting at Abundant Life Christian School last December left three dead, including the shooter, and six more injured, United Way of Dane County set up a recovery fund and raised $621,000 for impacted families at the school.
But one former student gravely injured in the shooting, Samy Garduno-Martinez, has not reached agreement with the school about how the money should be used and is seeking additional funding, according to the family’s attorney.
“The family has received a relatively small amount of money,” attorney Mark Hazelbaker wrote in a statement, following an inquiry from the Cap Times about the status of the United Way donations. “There are ongoing discussions with (the school) about the funds. These discussions are private.”…
