If a vacancy emerges on Madison’s City Council, the procedure for appointing an interim alder will no longer involve gathering voter signatures or the City Clerk’s Office, which administers elections each year.
Council members unanimously approved the changes this fall, with supporters saying the new process of filling seats will be clearer and simpler for applicants, the public and council members who ultimately make interim appointments.
