“We remember those we lost, and we continue to pray for those who are still healing”: Words of gratitude before the anniversary of a tragedy

MADISON, Wis. — Words of remembrance and gratitude ahead of the 1-year anniversary of a school shooting tragedy in Madison.

December 16, 2025 marks one year since a 15-year-old student opened fire inside a study hall at Abundant Life Christian School, killing 14-year-old Rubi Vergara of Madison and 42-year-old Erin West of Deforest, who was a substitute teacher. Six others were injured before the student turned the gun on herself and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
