Editorial | We won’t support candidates who ignore gun violence

This week marks the one-year anniversary of the Dec. 16, 2024, mass shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison. That attack left a teacher (42-year-old Erin West) and a student (14-year-old Rubi Patricia Vergara) dead at the hands of a fellow student (15-year-old Natalie Lynn Rupnow) who committed suicide at the scene. Six others were injured, two of them critically.

This mass shooting shook Madisonians to their core because it brought a horrific national reality just that much closer to home.

That national reality is mass gun violence…
