Minneapolis man arrested in Columbia Co. for heroin possession sentenced to 12 years

MADISON, Wis. — One of the two Minneapolis men arrested in November 2023 for possessing nearly 400 grams of fentanyl and heroin and over $100,000 in cash was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison, the state Department of Justice Western District of Wisconsin reported on Thursday.

Ernest McCurty, 44, was sentenced for possessing 100 grams or more of heroin intended for distribution on Sept. 24, 2025.

A Columbia County sheriff’s deputy was monitoring I-39/90/94 in Dekorra on Nov. 7, 2023, when they observed a vehicle traveling at nearly 100 mph in a 70 mph zone. The deputy pulled over the driver and searched the vehicle, finding a box containing approximately 394 grams of a fentanyl and heroin mixture, along with more than $100,000 in cash…
