Plea hearing scheduled for man accused of killing McFarland woman

MADISON, Wis. — The man accused of killing a 24-year-old McFarland woman last year is schedule to appear for a plea hearing next month, online records show.

James Barnes-Morris, 26, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of Brooke Strattan. In October 2024, Strattan was reported missing from Madison’s west side. Her body was later recovered from a pond in the UW-Madison Arboretum.

Police said Barnes-Morris was the last person seen with Strattan before her death. The two were in a relationship, and a criminal complaint alleges that he made comments to friends alluding to her murder…
