New alcohol regulation now in effect for Wisconsin’s wedding barns

TOWN OF COTTAGE GROVE, Wis. — Wedding barns venues across the state are facing new restrictions on alcohol at their events, thanks to legislation that took effect Jan. 1.

The law, passed in 2023 as Act 73, requires wedding barn venues either to obtain a liquor license or limit the number of events where guests bring their own alcohol to six per year, with no more than one event per month. It also restricts alcohol options to wine and beer.
