Wisconsin lawmakers debate sandhill crane hunt bill amid population and crop concerns

MADISON (WLUK) — It was standing room only in the committee room in Madison Tuesday as lawmakers discussed a bill proposing sandhill crane hunting in Wisconsin.

“According to U.S. Fish and Wildlife, they said we could possibly have a hunt once we achieved a population of about 30,000 [cranes],” said Committee on Sporting Heritage Vice Chair Paul Tittl, R-Manitowoc. “We are currently at over 112,000 as of the last count, and some believe it actually is an undercount.”

Tittl sat down with FOX 11 to discuss the bill, along with why it was proposed. He told us he’s spoken with various fish and game organizations within his district about the issue…
