Democratic Gov. Tony Evers said he and his office are “absolutely” preparing for a possible Immigration and Customs Enforcement presence in Wisconsin similar to the deployment in Minnesota, where tensions continue to rise between locals and federal ICE agents.
Evers said that every day his office is communicating with people across the state, mostly leaders of nonprofits and groups that work with people who might be affected by ICE operations the most, to prepare for similar operations in Wisconsin.
“We just want to be prepared and make sure that we know what parts of the state we’re concerned about. But also, it is important that we be ready. We have several thousand people in the state of Wisconsin that are undocumented that are milking cows every single day, or working in plants where they are taking chickens and making the chickens that you buy in the store,” Evers told the Cap Times in an interview on Thursday. “So we have lots of people that we have concerns about, so in those areas of the state, we are working, reaching out to people.”…
