Construction worker in Wisconsin in critical condition after crane drops 10 ton steel beam

MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – A construction worker in Wisconsin is in critical condition after an incident Saturday morning where a crane dropped a large steel beam at a worksite.

According to the Madison Fire Department, officials were sent to the corner of State and Fairchild Streets around 9:30 a.m. Saturday, after a report of a construction crane dropping a 20,000+ pound steel beam.

The beam reportedly fell about 50 feet through multiple sublevels, with an employee falling as well. One uninjured employee was stranded above the site with the crane.

Madison’s Fire Heavy Urban Rescue Team responded to rescue calls and used the equipment onsite to perform a basket rescue. The employee who fell was rescued but hospitalized in critical condition…
