The Village of Oregon and the City of Fitchburg serve a combined population of around 45,000 residents, and in the past few months, officials on both sides have been working on a plan to consolidate their fire protection and EMS services.
Oregon Village Board members approved at their Tuesday, Feb. 2 meeting a resolution to jointly draft a Request for Proposal for Shared Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services Feasibility Study and Implementation Plan with the City of Fitchburg. Oregon would pay about 30 percent, based on the population of the two communities.
Last fall, representatives from Oregon and the cities of Fitchburg and Verona met to discuss possibly consolidating fire protection and EMS services among interested area communities, but Verona signaled it wasn’t interested due to concerns of cost and control.
