Columbia County: Stolen checkbook sparks multi-county identity theft investigation, two arrested

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Two people were arrested earlier this month for identity thefts after a person reported their checkbook had been stolen and checks were being used for purchases, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office reported Friday.

According to a Facebook post by the Sheriff’s office, the victim reported the checkbook missing on January 29 and provided information to officials about two suspects who had been in the home where the checkbook was.

Over the next several days, deputies learned the stolen checkbook had been used at multiple businesses in Dane County and Dodge County…
