Driver in deadly crash on Madison’s southwest side sentenced to 8 years in prison

MADISON, Wis. — The man charged in a crash on Madison’s southwest side that killed a woman last year was sentenced Friday to eight years in prison.

Rayan Bertrand, 21, pleaded guilty in December 2025 to homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. Charges of first-degree reckless homicide and first-degree recklessly endangering safety were dismissed but read in at sentencing.

Prosecutors said Bertrand was driving at speeds up to 90 mph before a crash at the intersection of South Gammon Road and Raymond Road on March 6, 2025. A 67-year-old woman died in the crash and two children were injured…
