PORTAGE, Wis. — A man and a woman are accused of stealing a person’s checks and were arrested in Madison, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said.
The sheriff’s office received a report on Jan. 26 from a Lodi resident alleging that their checkbook was stolen and that stolen checks were being used to make purchases. The victim provided information to law enforcement about two suspects who had access to the residence where their checkbook was located.
Over the next few days, the sheriff’s office learned through the follow-up investigation that the stolen checks had been used at several businesses in Dane and Dodge counties…
