Madison man in Puerto Vallarta describes violence following cartel leader’s death

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -A wave of violence swept through western Mexico after the Mexican army killed a drug cartel leader, halting travel and raising concerns for those still in the region.

Terry Halverson, a Madison man who splits his time between Madison and Mexico, was in Puerto Vallarta when the unrest broke out. He has been in Mexico for about two months.

‘A lot of smoke’

Halverson said he witnessed the violence firsthand from his home.

“Yesterday morning, I was sitting out on my deck a little after 8 a.m., and I noticed a lot of smoke. And I had no idea what it was,” Halverson said…
