Annexation throws curveball into Madison-McFarland border talks

As Madison and McFarland officials seek to simplify their existing municipal border and agree on future annexation boundaries, some Blooming Grove residents are vying to join the village rather than the capital city.

McFarland’s Village Board expects residents in the April Hills area of the town of Blooming Grove — a subdivision of roughly 150 homes and 350 people — to file an annexation petition to stave off attachment to Madison, which scheduled for Oct. 31, 2027. Other sections of the town, which is dissolving, would still attach to Madison per the terms of a 2006 agreement.
